Bluetooth Tracker Production Handoff: Keep Model Identity, Firmware and Branding Aligned

A working prototype is not a complete manufacturing handoff. For a Google Fast Pair project, align the registered model, firmware configuration, user-facing identity and controlled production records before releasing an OEM tracker batch.

1. Define which product the factory is building

A branded enclosure, a firmware file and a passing bench test are separate pieces of evidence. If they refer to different product revisions, an apparently healthy sample can still be the wrong build for the customer's order. Treat model identity as a controlled part of the production handoff, not just text on a carton.

Google states that all Fast Pair Provider models must be registered before they work with Fast Pair. Registration supplies a Model ID and an anti-spoofing public/private key pair, and the registered information is used in the pairing suggestion shown to the user. Google also requires the registered device name to include the OEM or brand name together with the specific product name; a generic product name alone is not sufficient. [1]

For an OEM team, the practical implication is to agree which registered model belongs to the order and which customer-facing name should appear. These Google requirements must not be copied into an Apple Find My project as if both ecosystems used the same registration process.

2. Match the connection configuration to the device

Google's model-registration guidance says that Fast Pair attempts to connect to audio profiles after bonding by default. For a device that does not support those profiles, it recommends enabling the Data-Only Connection option during registration; the note also applies to BLE-only devices. This is a useful configuration checkpoint for a non-audio accessory. [1]

An audible finder alert does not, by itself, make a tracker a Bluetooth audio product. During the engineering handoff, record the actual device type and supported profiles rather than selecting settings from a headphone example. Google explains that feature requirements differ by device type, so the selected implementation and its applicable requirements need to be reviewed together. [2]

Do not turn this configuration note into a blanket Find Hub compatibility claim. A successful pairing prompt, an audible alert and participation in a finding network are distinct observations; record exactly which functions have been verified on the intended product.

3. Separate traceability from secret material

Google's registration page distinguishes the Model ID from the anti-spoofing public/private key pair. They should not be treated as interchangeable entries in a general-purpose factory spreadsheet. The following controls are internal engineering recommendations, not a quotation of Google's certification rules. [1]

Use a controlled release record to associate the order, hardware revision, approved firmware version, registered model and provisioning-profile reference. Keep private keys out of ordinary reports, screenshots, support tickets and shared build notes. Authorized production staff should use the approved provisioning route rather than passing secret values through informal messages.

Retain a non-sensitive result showing which release configuration was applied and whether the authorized provisioning check passed. If a unit needs rework, use a documented recovery procedure and preserve the revision history. A serial number or an internal profile reference can support traceability without exposing the underlying private material.

4. Verify the released build, not just a golden sample

A suggested internal release check is to compare a production-intent unit with the approved build record, confirm the expected user-facing name and product information, and exercise the supported setup and local finding actions. Record the phone, operating-system version, firmware, test conditions and outcome. Use controlled test accounts and participants who have agreed to the test.

If the name, model reference or firmware revision is inconsistent, hold the affected units for investigation rather than changing a label to hide the mismatch. Where the production setup cannot expose a value directly, record the approved indirect check and its limits instead of claiming that an unobserved value has been verified.

Registration and internal checks are not substitutes for platform acceptance. Google's Device Feature Requirements page separately states that supported features must meet Fast Pair certification criteria and follow its testing guidance and certification process. This article does not establish certification or approval for any Stellarrisetech model. [3]

5. Make the handoff part of the OEM or embedded brief

Stellarrisetech publicly describes ready-to-brand OEM trackers, custom ODM development and embedded tracking solutions, together with engineering, testing and manufacturing planning. Those service routes provide a context for defining a controlled handoff; they are not evidence that a particular model has completed the checks described here. [4]

Before a batch is released, agree who owns the registration record, who approves firmware and branding changes, how authorized provisioning is performed, and what non-sensitive evidence accompanies the shipment. The goal is simple: the product ordered, the product configured and the product the customer sees should all refer to the same approved release.

Define the production identity before the first batch.
